Come to think of it, I’ve been attracted to children’s books, ever since my boys were little. It was a great way to connect with my children, was affordable entertainment, and educationally excellent for the boys’ developing minds. Unfortunately, the boys grew to a stage where reading together was no longer in our day. Therefore, I never really picked up any more children’s books unless I was entertaining a kid for the day.

Then comes along my Children’s Lit Class and I must admit, I’ve loved the books!

I’ve enjoyed the illustrations, innocence, and the feel-good stories of picture books.

I’ve enjoyed the easy reading, creativity, and perspective of juvenile and young adult books.

I find that there are many juvenile and young adult mystery type books that I like. For some strange reason, in the past I only chalked that up to adult age authors. I also enjoy historical fiction. I can experience history through a personal perspective this way.

It has been good for me to learn about the different awards that are offered to distinguished authors/illustrators. I had heard of Newberry before but, never knew why they were such a big deal. I also never knew about the various awards given to various authors/illustrators that focus on different cultures. What an awesome way to learn about some of my future student’s cultures and at the same time have resources to offer them!
